You have a MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY. That means the MANUFACTURER handles repairs and exchanges...Or do you somehow think that the store where you bought your camera actually manufactures Canon cameras int he back room?

Most retail stores no longer service electronics, instead you must call the manufacturer, which is Canon. Call Canon and stop smoking your camera.|||The retailer鈥檚 obligations

If there is an obvious fault with the item at any time within the first 6 months and it has not been caused by wear and tear or misuse, your first port of call must be the shop you bought it from. They have the responsibility to put the matter right, and should not evade this responsibility by referring you to the manufacturer in the context of a guarantee or warranty.

I have seen people return goods after a year in some cases. Currys/Dixons as far as I have been told from hear say are quite good at shunning responsibility.|||There are 2 diff types of guaranty: the one that gives you the store which sometimes is no longer than 15 days and that covers immediate replacement of the device at the store and your manufacturer's which covers any fixes and for that you gotta take it to a certified Cannon repair shop and present your device and documentation (proof of purchase and guaranty paper) After 3 months It's not responsibility of the store but of the manufacturer (Cannon) to respond for your device's malfunction and you gotta take it personally.|||Miscommunication is probably an issue here. You may not have properly understood that direct replacement only is allowed within the first week after purchase. You may not also have understood the warranty saying mishandling is not covered. You may not have conveyed your message to the store properly as shown by the way you state your problem here in Answers. You see, if you don't follow the simple rules of grammar, you won't understand them and they won't understand you.|||Out of the statutory 28 day period, it's a warranty issue. If you have an extended warranty that's an issue you need to take up with the underwriters of that warranty. If it's the manufacturers warranty it's the responsibility of the manufacturer. Canon's regional competence centre handles UK warranty claims, and all repairs, their telephone number is 0844 369 0100.|||Your contract is always with the retailer in the first instance, the retailer has to support the item for a 'reasonable length of time' which is undefined in law. But let's face it, a place like Curry's is only interested in getting your money, not in providing service, so you will probably have to fight hard to get your rights.|||Go back and remind them that under the Sale of Goods Act it is their responsibility to solve the problem.
